Discipleship Begins with Beholding

  • Discipleship Begins with Beholding

  • By: Samuel Whitefield

How many of you, like me, have struggled to maintain your spiritual disciplines? For years, I slogged through Bible studies and yawned through boring prayer meetings.

Today, I joyfully study the Word every day, and I delight to pray with others. The spiritual disciplines are the same. What changed? My motivation. Once I saw the beauty of Jesus and felt His presence, I wanted more.

Why wasn’t I gazing at the beauty of Jesus before? I wish I would have and this book years ago. Then, I could have arrived at this place of peace much sooner.

Samuel Whitefield changed my paradigm for discipleship. Biblical discipleship is rooted in the imitation of Jesus, and worship is a big part of that. Unless we behold and imitate Jesus, we cannot be transformed into His image. “Beauty and fascination are the battlefield for discipleship because what we find beautiful and fascinating will ultimately determine what we become” (page 45).

Don’t miss out on discovering the beauty of Jesus! Let Him captivate your heart. Allow beholding Him to change your motivation and your worship. This book is filled with scripture and practical steps for beholding our beautiful Bridegroom. Here are just a few of Whitefield’s suggestions: 1) become a student of the beauty of Jesus, 2) ask the Holy Spirit to reveal Jesus, 3) sing the Word of God.

Beloved, begin to behold the beauty of Jesus and watch your life be transformed!
