Lavish Devotion

Cindy Arora March 30, 2021

When she poured the fragrant oil over me, she was preparing my body in advance of my burial. She has done all that she could to honor me. I promise you that as this wonderful gospel spreads all over the world, the story of her lavish devotion to me will be mentioned in memory of her. Mark 14:8-9 TPT

As we celebrate Passover and Easter, I am praying to be like Mary (sister of Martha and Lazarus). Mary did all she could to honor Jesus. I want that to be true of me! The story of her lavish devotion to Jesus is recorded in three of the four gospels.

I am praying for my own story of lavish devotion to Jesus. Christ Jesus is continually lavishing on me His superabundant grace. I desire to lavish Him with my appreciation for His mercy. But how do I do that? What could be my story of lavish devotion?

Mary’s act of lavish devotion was to anoint Jesus’ body for burial. I cannot do that because Jesus is no longer on earth in bodily form. However, the church of Christ is referred as “the body of Christ.” If I were to anoint the church (which is His body) with the oil of the Holy Spirit (Acts 10:38), would that be an act of lavish devotion?

Can this be true? Every time we pray for a believer to be filled with the Holy Spirit, are we anointing the body of Christ? Isn’t that a beautiful thought? As we pray for one another, Jesus receives that as our lavish devotion.

Father, please give me more opportunities to pray for others and lavish my devotion on You!
