Wine and Oil

Cindy Arora November 9, 2021

God causes the grass to grow .. . that He may bring forth . . . “wine that makes glad the heart of man, oil to make his face shine, and bread which strengthens men’s hearts.” Psalm 104:15

I am so attuned to hearing the Holy Spirit referred to as wine and oil that I naturally think of God’s Spirit in this verse. The wine and the oil represent the Holy Spirit working in us and through us to others.

God gives us wine (the Spirit) to make our hearts glad. The Spirit is God’s manifest presence that bathes us in the warmth of His love. In His presence we are infused with an unnatural sense of peace, even if the circumstances do not warrant it. Yes, God’s Spirit does make our hearts glad.

God also gives us oil (His Spirit) to make our faces shine. When our faces shine, the world will see and be attracted to the light.  The oil represents our anointing in the Holy Spirit to radiate God’s glory. When others look at us, they see God’s kindness and goodness shining forth from us. God’s Spirit radiates a shine from us that is winsome to the world.

Finally, the bread that God gives us to strengthen our hearts is His Word. This delicious morsel that we are chewing on from Psalm 104 has strengthened my heart. I am encouraged to continue to pressing into God and His Spirit until my heart is gladdened, and my face shines. I pray that you are encouraged as well. To God be the Glory!
